Perry was born the 25th of July 1968 in Chicago in Illinois. She was the daughter of Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. Her first appearance was in the television screen as Jackie Harris, a character which was played by her mother in the ABC comedy Roseanne. However, her parents did not allow her to act until she was an adult because of the effects stress would affect their child. Perry claimed she felt nervous to be an actor during high school, but started doing shows at Northwestern University as a way to connect with people following her transfer from Boston University. Perry, after graduating from Boston University, moved into New York in search of television roles. Perry was able to land small roles in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But, her home-sickness led her to California for theater roles. In 2013, she appeared in The Other Place on Broadway alongside her mother. The show featured their father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in the year 2015 at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. In the year 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family. Her father played her character in her role on the ABC drama Scandal. The same year she was cast as a younger character of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again portraying a younger character of her mom's. The character was chosen through an audition, even having a strong connection with it.
